ABOUT LYN-G



LYN-G Indexing Services was founded in 2000 by Lynne M. Grimes, MLS when she turned her attention from part-time to full-time freelance work. LYN-G specializes in STM (scientific-technical-medical) and academic content, emphasizing medical, dental, pharmacological, nursing, allied health, and hard science frameworks in print and electronic environments.

 Lynne M. Grimes, MLS provides all indexing services for LYN-G's clients. Ms. Grimes also provides accounting, marketing, and technical frameworks for LYN-G. 

Lynne M. Grimes, MLS holds a BA Degree (Cum Laude) in English and Literature from the College of St. Rose (Albany, NY) and an MLS (Master of Library Science) Degree (specializing in cataloging, indexing, and abstracting) from the University at Albany (Albany, NY). In addition, she worked as an academic medical librarian-cataloger and brings more than 25 years of indexing/cataloging and editorial-related experience and expertise to the table.

Lynne M. Grimes, MLS is an indexer of print and online books and journals (via Cindex dedicated indexing software and embedded indexing in Word and WordPerfect in PC and MAC environments).

Lynne M. Grimes, MLS is currently affiliated with the MLA (Medlical Library Association), the ASI (American Society of Indexers), the AWMA (American Medical Writers Association), and the EFA (Editorial Freelancers Association).

 Prior to turning her attention to full-time freelancing in mid-2000, Lynne M. Grimes, MLS pursued freelancing on a part-time basis, while also working as a professional indexer, cataloger, information analyst, editor, and proofreader. From 1996 to 2000, she worked as a professional (contingent) indexer and editor of software/online help systems, including Microsoft Windows 2000 and the MSDN (Microsoft Developers Network Library) and the associated print documentation. During this time, she also worked as an information analyst for a web design firm. From 1979 to 1996, she held professional cataloging and technical services positions in medical and academic libraries, specializing in profiling library cataloging systems and in cataloging interactive media, rare books, and archival and history of medicine collections. During that time, she also spoke and published widely on the broad range of library and information architecture topics, covering and bridging library technical and public services. In addition, she served as inaugural Editor-in-Chief of The Haworth Press, Inc.'s IRSQ: Internet Reference Services Quarterly and held a variety of elected positions in national, state, and regional library organizations, and coordinated numerous region- and state-wide conference programs. From 1976 to 1979, she worked as a professional editor and proofreader for both a newspaper and an ad agency.

 Lynne M. Grimes, MLS has been (and continues to be!) a patient and enthusiastic teacher and mentor of graduate library and information science/archival studies students, as well as fledgling and seasoned indexers, catalogers, information analysts, and editors.  She continues to working with the EFA on basic indexing workshops designed specifically for copy editors and is once again offering online workshops for both novice and experienced indexers.
